Asmodeus

The prince whose office is the channel of lust — running, in 2026, through the feed of every device you own.

Asmodeus is named in the Catholic demonological tradition — classified definitively by the German bishop Peter Binsfeld in 1589, drawing on Aquinas and the older patristic teaching — as the prince of Lust. His office, the tradition records, has always been the inflaming of disordered lust in those who can be reached. The channels through which he is permitted to reach have changed across the centuries. The office has not.

A direct warning

The Lust operation works through the most personalised channel the world has ever produced. Asmodeus's office is the inflaming of disordered desire — and the algorithm has been engineered, deliberately and at unimaginable scale, to deliver the precise image that inflames the precise weakness of the specific viewer at the moment of greatest vulnerability. The pornography that finds you is not random. Neither is the body-shape recommendation that surfaces after midnight. Neither is the dating profile that resembles the person you should not desire.

Scripture and tradition

"The which when the devil [Asmodeus] had smelled, he fled into the utmost parts of Egypt, and the angel [Raphael] bound him."Tobit 8:3

"Flee fornication ... know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"1 Corinthians 6:18-20

How the operation runs in 2026

The lust operation is not abstract. It runs through specific, named channels — the recommendation engine, the targeted ad, the suggested account, the autoplay queue. These are the channels Asmodeus now rides. The Catholic tradition does not require the algorithm itself to be conscious for this to be true. Folk and theological tradition has always understood that the channel is neutral; the rider is not.

Specific operations the reader will recognise:

  • The pornography recommendation that arrived the night you decided to stop.
  • The body-image account that surfaces in your feed after a vulnerable post.
  • The OnlyFans suggestion that knows the type you have never named out loud.
  • The dating-app profile that resembles a colleague, a relative, the lover from years ago.
  • The Reels algorithm that learned, within days, the precise visual signature of your weakness.
  • The fitness account that crosses, slowly, from inspiration into objectification.
  • Targeted ads for products that match a private fantasy you have never typed.

The diagnostic — signs the operation is reaching you

The site's standing threshold: two or more is "pay attention." Four or more is "act tonight."

  • Your private browsing of any kind clusters in the same hours each week
  • You delete history more carefully than you delete other content
  • You feel a specific kind of shame after closing the app — a shame you do not feel with other content
  • The recommendation you saw five minutes ago is still pulling at you while you read this
  • You have promised yourself you would stop and broken the promise within the same week
  • A specific image has lodged in your mind and arrives unsummoned
  • You cannot remember when you last spent an evening without checking

A direct word

This page treats addiction to disordered content with the gravity it deserves. The site is not a substitute for professional help. If you are caught in a pattern you cannot break, speak to a priest, a pastor, a sponsor, or a counsellor in your tradition. The protective answer the site gives is not the only protective answer; it is the spiritual layer on top of the practical one.

The countermanding angel

The Catholic tradition pairs each Prince of Hell with the archangel whose office is the protective opposite. The Prince of Lust is answered by Archangel Raphael — The Binder of Asmodeus — Book of Tobit.

The traditional prayer of countermand:

Archangel Raphael, who in the Book of Tobit bound the demon Asmodeus and drove him into the wilderness, bind whatever has inflamed disordered desire in me. Restore the temple of my body to the worship of the Holy Spirit. Give me the chastity Christ asks of His own. Where my eyes have wandered, return them to Him. Amen.A prayer of the countermanding tradition

The paired stone

The medieval lapidary tradition pairs each protective angel with a specific stone, and through the angel with the answering virtue. For Asmodeus and the operation of lust, the tradition's standing answer is Amethyst.

The stone of sobriety — of body, mind, and soul. Pliny, Marbodus, and Thomas & Pavitt all agree: amethyst is what the wearer carries when something other than their own will has taken the wheel.

What to do tonight

The tradition's response is not abstract. It is direct, specific, and physical. Take these in order. Do not pick and choose.

  1. If you are seeing the operation right now: close the application. Walk physically out of the room. Do not return tonight.
  2. Delete the application from your phone for 40 days. The forty-day window is the traditional duration.
  3. Carry amethyst near the device. The stone of sobriety has been doing this work for two thousand years.
  4. Find one human being you can tell. The Catholic tradition has called this confession for sixteen centuries. The Protestant tradition has called it accountability. The principle is the same: the operation requires secrecy. Break the secrecy and the operation weakens.
  5. Pray the prayer of Raphael above, once at sundown and once before sleep.
  6. Install one accountability tool on the device (Covenant Eyes, Accountable2You, or equivalent). Make the act of viewing observed.

The cultivation of the answering virtue

The Catholic moral tradition has always insisted that the deadly sins are not defeated by mere refusal but by the cultivation of their answering virtue. The Prince of Lust is not defeated by simply not committing his sin. He is defeated by the deliberate, repeated, daily practice of Chastity (Castitas) — the virtue that occupies the ground he would otherwise hold.

The 40-day working above is the beginning. The cultivation of chastity is the lifetime answer.
